Stevens family photographs, ca. 1855-1910.

Photographs of the Stevens family, originally of Norwich, Conn. Many of the photographs are cyantoypes of drawings and watercolors by Samuel J. Reader of Topeka, Ks., presented in 1910 to Dr. Henry B. Stevens; these depict Reader, as well as Henry's uncle, Aaron D. Stevens, an ardent abolitionist and a member of John Brown's party during the raid on Harpers Ferry (W. Va.) with Reader in 1859. There are also two photographs of Reader as a young and old man, also given to Henry B. Stevens. The other photographs are snapshots dating from ca. 1890 of unidentified family members and houses, as well as the gravestone of Moses Stevens. The photographer of the snapshots is unknown.
